Jet-te L. Ranning (b. 1954) is a Danish visual artist, celebrated for her ethereal, layered paintings that intertwine abstraction and figuration. Educated at the Skolen for Brugskunst in Copenhagen (1975–80) and, breaking ground as the first Dane at the School of Visual Arts in New York (1981–83), she brings both Nordic sensibility and international flair to her practice. Ranning’s work is distinctive for its construction of delicate, translucent layers combining oil, acrylic, and marble dust, resulting in what feels like peering through a veil into subtle, poetic worlds. Her motifs—organic, ornamental, graphic—often draw inspiration from overlooked elements of nature such as wild plants or urban flora, which she elevates through her compositions. Her art is widely recognized and included in major public and private collections, including The Americas Collection(Miami), Moderna Museet (Stockholm), Malmö Konstmuseum, ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Fyns Kunstmuseum, and Ny Carlsbergs Fond, among others. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Niels Wessel Bagge Kunstfonds Hæderspris at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
